A portrait of Ryhan Ibn Irshad, a Class 11 student from Crescent Public School, Srinagar, alongside his Indian Space Science Olympiad certificate and medal for achieving 1st rank in the Super Senior category.

To the students of Kashmir: Ryhan Ibn Irshad is not distant from you. He walked the same streets, studied under similar conditions and faced many of the same uncertainties. His success is proof that your dreams do not need permission from circumstances. You may not have access to elite coaching institutes. You may face disruptions others do not. But you have something just as powerful—the ability to persist.

Too often, Kashmir is spoken about without Kashmiri voices. Stories like Ryhan’s allow us to reclaim that narrative. They remind the nation—and ourselves—that Kashmir is not only a place of struggle, but also a place of intellect, ambition and excellence. Our youth are not waiting to be defined by headlines; they are defining themselves through achievement. In the realm of space science—where imagination meets precision—Ryhan Ibn Irshad has ensured that Kashmir’s name is written with honor.

While this achievement marks a significant milestone, it is not an endpoint. It is a beginning. Whether Ryhan goes on to become a physicist, an astrophysicist, an engineer, or a researcher, his journey has already created a path for others to follow. Young students will now look at national Olympiads and research institutions with less fear and more confidence. And that may be his greatest contribution yet.
