Srinagar: Kabra Altaf (25) a rising star hailing from Nishat area of central Kashmir’s Srinagar city, with a desire to be called a sportsperson.

Kabra Altaf, Kashmir ‘ s distinguished judoka, secured the sole medal for the valley in the senior division of the 3rd Khelo India North Zone Women’s Judo League Ranking Tournament. With an impressive record of 7 national medals in judo, Kabra clinched the bronze in the under 78 KG category, once again bringing pride to J&K.
Her father, who had acted as her role model since childhood, had taught her various throwing and self-defense skills. Kabra was fascinated by his constant discussion about the physical and mental toughness needed to be a sportsperson.
Kabra’s passion, dedication, and love for Judo made her stick to the sport even when it was hard. Judo gave her a sense of belongingness that made her feel unique. Her aspiration to become the top athlete in the country inspired her to additional levels of inspiration. Kabra had only been training Judo for three months when she was chosen for the national team. She participated in her first school national and was given the chance to train at the Bhopal Academy. The most motivating thing for her was being selected for the India camp after winning the first national medal for J&K, according to Kabra’s father.
“Kabra won medals in several weight categories, which was a rare feat. Judo is an art form as much as a sport. It offers a lifestyle and an ethics code. Judo is not just an Olympic sport, but it also offers numerous benefits for improving physical health. Judo promotes physical and mental wellness. According to Kabra, Judo is a way of life.
Kabra’s determination, passion and dedication towards Judo has made her a force to reckon with in the field.
Her achievements have not only made her an inspiration for the girls of Nishat Area, but also has been a life changing event for other such girls of Kashmir.
