hero of kashmir

The young people of Kashmir are filled with hope and optimism today, and they are prepared to embark on the journey of a lifetime. One of them a visionary mind is Abaan Habib resident of Zakura area of Srinagar, a masterpiece from Srinagar who has finally etched his name in the book of history with his extraordinary drone invention, this incredible drone capable of transporting blood between hospitals in the event of a medical emergency. After 5 years of effort, this flying machine is finally ready.

This project of his was presented by Habib Abaan last year. At that time he was a 12th standard student at Green Valley Educational Institute in Kashmir. He said, “We have a tinkering lab at school, which helped me a lot in understanding the process and learning the art of making drones.”

My parents gave me freedom and therefore my idea of education is quite different from others. Unlike other parents, my family did not force me to choose a career like a doctor or an engineer. They allowed me to go as I pleased. My inclination was towards drone technology.”

He has decided after witnessing the devastating flood of 2014 in Srinagar and made up his mind to develop a solution for transporting blood samples and pouches of blood between the hospitals. Years of dedicated work led him to produce a drone that has the potential to save lives and create a better healthcare, especially in the region which has history of natural disaster and calamities. Apart from helping people in natural calamities he is also planning to install a mechanism in the drone which will help in combating man and animal conflict. The drone will automatically detect the wild animal present in the residential areas and will process the image to track and spot them and further help in saving their life. He wants to help and wish to see technological development in the region of Kashmir and encourage the Kashmiri youth to be as front runner in the world of technological advancement.

Mr Aban Habib’s tireless effort was aimed at perfecting his drone technology. The initial trials conducted in Himachal Pradesh yielded him the success, with the drone effectively connecting 30 – 35 satellite hospitals to the main branch, covering total distance of around 70 km and more. The drone impressive average speed of 80 kilometers per hour ensures swift delivery of critical medical supplies at required place. The innovation was a grand success however the challenges faced due to limited support from the administration and regulatory bodies. Despite all problems at his end Mr Habib remained undeterred and he decided to start the trial in Himachal Pradesh, where he could gather valuable data and showcase its benefits before expanding its use to Kashmir valley.

Mr Habib apart from his technological endeavors has an inspiring message for the youth of Kashmir. He encourages them to follow their dream and passion and emphasizing on perseverance and dedication. His drone invention holds immense promise in revolutionizing healthcare in hinterland. The potential impact of his technology cannot be overlooked and with each step forward we are closer to the future where life-saving medical supplies can reach even the most remotest areas, offering hope and chance of survival for those in desperate need.

Abaan collaborated with businesses outside of Kashmir in addition to working on the project. These partnerships have given it more knowledge and resources to develop and apply its drone technology. But he claims he needs funding in order to operate the drone business on a large scale. With his drone, Abaan Habib intends to not only save lives but also open up economic and employment prospects for the valley’s children.

Abaan Habib said that JKEDI and JKTPO encouraged him but he is yet to receive any financial support from the government. He also went to Gujarat to attend an event organized by DRDO where we showed off his drone to the then Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane. “He appreciated my efforts”. He says young entrepreneurs should be prepared to face rejection or failure; spend their money and not fall for loans and subsidies, for he believes “debts are the root of failures.” He currently is working as Senior System Engineer at Skye Air Mobility.

Aban habib’s message to the youth is to follow your passion. Only through the persistence and dedication of young minds can a society bring about meaningful change in the world.
