From the remote village of Aloosa Kralpora in Kupwara district, in north Kashmir’s frontier belt, a remarkable story of perseverance, education and public service is taking shape. Suhail Ahmad Khoja, an alumnus of Hajipir Army Goodwill School (AGS), Trehgam has qualified the Jammu & Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) examination and been selected as Assistant Director (Economics & Statistics) in the Planning, Development and Monitoring Department. His achievement is not merely a personal milestone; it is an inspiring example of what education can accomplish when opportunity reaches even the most challenging corners of the region.
A proud alumnus of Hajipir AGS Trehgam from the 2000–2011 batch, Suhail’s academic journey reflects determination and sustained excellence. A Gold Medalist from the University of Kashmir, he has also qualified NET, SET, GATE and JRF. From a young student in a frontier classroom to a professional entrusted with a role connected to the development of Jammu & Kashmir, his journey demonstrates how ambition, when supported by education and discipline, can transcend geographical and social barriers. At the heart of this journey stands the Army Goodwill Schools initiative. Established to extend quality education and meaningful opportunities to children in remote and border areas, AGSs have become more than institutions of learning. They provide students with an environment that nurtures knowledge, discipline, confidence, values and a sense of responsibility. For children growing up far from major educational centres, such opportunities can fundamentally change the trajectory of their lives.
This educational outreach forms an important part of the Army’s broader Sadbhavana initiative, which seeks to strengthen bonds with communities through constructive engagement and people-centric efforts. Education remains one of its most enduring contributions. By enabling children from remote areas to access quality schooling and encouraging them to dream beyond the limitations imposed by geography, Sadbhavana transforms classrooms into pathways of opportunity. Suhail’s selection as Assistant Director gives this journey an even deeper significance. His new responsibility places him within the machinery that contributes to planning, development and economic decision-making in Jammu & Kashmir. The student who once benefited from an opportunity created in a frontier school can now contribute to the development of the very region that shaped his aspirations.
His story therefore represents more than individual success. It is a reminder to thousands of young people across Kashmir that one’s place of birth need not determine one’s destination. A child from a remote village can aspire, excel and eventually serve society in a position of responsibility. Suhail Ahmad Khoja stands as an inspiring hero of Kashmir, not because of fame but because his journey embodies perseverance, achievement and service. His success is a proud moment for his family, his village and the entire AGS Trehgam fraternity while also reaffirming a powerful truth: when education reaches the frontier, excellence can emerge from it and when excellence is turned towards public service, it becomes nation building.
