
Nehal Zubair and Alishba Fatima Jillani remarkable achievements have brought immense pride to both their school and the nation Delhi Public School (DPS) Srinagar is celebrating the extraordinary achievements of two of its students who recently made their mark on the global stage at the Pencak Silat World Championships in Abu Dhabi. Held from 18-22 December 2024, the event witnessed fierce competition among 1,100 participants from 57 countries
One of the most exceptional feats came from Nehal Zubair, a 9th-grade student at DPS Srinagar, who secured a silver medal at the 5th World Pencak Silat Championship. Competing in the highly competitive 59-63 kg weight category, Nehal demonstrated outstanding skill, focus and perseverance against some of the world’s best martial artists.
Her performance was a testament to the dedication and discipline that she has cultivated in her training. In a competition that saw participation from 1100 athletes, Nehal’s silver medal was a well-earned recognition of her talent and hard work. The achievement not only reflects Nehal’s personal growth but also highlights the global potential of DPS Srinagar’s students.
Chairman Vijay Dhar praised Nehal’s relentless pursuit of excellence: “Her success is a true example of perseverance and discipline. DPS Srinagar’s pride also shone brightly through Alishba Fatima Jillani, a 10th-grade student, bagged a bronze medal at the 5th Pencak Silat Junior World Championship. Alishba’s performance against a fierce group of young athletes was a powerful demonstration of her skill, resilience, and strategic mastery of the sport. Competing at the junior level, her combination of effective attack, defense, and composure earned her a spot on the podium, where she proudly accepted her bronze medal.
Principal Shafaq Afshan expressed her immense pride in Alishba’s success, noting: “Alishba’s win makes us all proud of her efforts and those of her coaches. At DPS Srinagar, we have always underscored the importance of nurturing talent and allowing students the freedom to excel in disciplines beyond straitjacketed academics. Her triumph is a vindication of our vision.”
