
Arzath and Praznath, affectionately known as the Wangoo Sisters, have become symbols of excellence in the sport of Wushu, inspiring young athletes across Jammu and Kashmir and the entire nation. Hailing from the humble village of Traperpora in Shopian, Kashmir, the sisters are daughters of Mr. Vinod Bushan and Mrs. Ranjita Pandita and currently residing in Jammu. Their remarkable journey in sports reflects a blend of unwavering determination, resilience, and hard work.
The Wangoo Sisters’ entry into Wushu at the Khadi Mill Ground in Srinagar, Kashmir, under the mentorship of Mr. Kuldeep Handoo, the Chief National Coach of India and a Dronacharya Awardee. It was here that Mr. Handoo identified Praznath’s exceptional flexibility, directing her towards the Taolu discipline of Wushu. Both sisters underwent rigorous training, even during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, supplementing their practice with yoga under the supervision of their mother.
The sisters’ dedication began to pay off at the 20th Sub-Junior National Wushu Championship in March 2021, held in Ranchi, Jharkhand. Praznath’s remarkable skill and flexibility earned her a bronze medal in the group event. Her performance was met with widespread praise, boosting her confidence and setting the stage for future achievements.
Their success is a result of many hands coming together. In 2022, the Wangoo Sisters moved to Jammu, marking the start of an exciting new chapter in their careers. Under the mentorship of Coach Sher Bahadur at the M.A. Stadium, their relentless efforts culminated stellar performances at the 22nd Sub-Junior National Wushu Championship in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh. Together, they secured four bronze medals.
Their determination continued to yield impressive results in 2024. At the 23rd Sub-Junior National Wushu Championship held in Jammu, Arzath clinched three gold medals, while Praznath won two golds and one silver, helping the J&K Taolu team secure the runner-up trophy.
Later that year, at the 24th Sub-Junior National Wushu Championship in Tarn Taran, Punjab, Arzath added one gold and two silver medals to her collection, while Praznath earned a silver and a bronze. Their excellence reached new heights to Khelo India Wushu Women’s League, where they earned multiple medals at both zonal and national levels. At the 4th All India Inter-SAI Championship in Patiala, Punjab both sisters excelled by securing three gold medals each in 2024.
Their historic victory is just the tip of the iceberg for what athletes from Jammu & Kashmir can achieve with proper support. Wangoo Sisters’ journey is a powerful testament to the strength of perseverance, discipline and passion.The Wangoo Sisters are not just champions in Wushu but also role models for the next generation of women in sports.
