
Aamir Hamid Wani, a rising star from Dadoora, Pulwama, has etched his name into history by becoming the first player from J & K to be selected for the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL). Aamir was selected with a base price of Rs 9 lakh, which reflects both his potential and the faith of PKL teams in his skills.
Aamir’s journey reflects a significant commitment and progression in his kabaddi career. After training hard at Mid Line Academy in Mumbai for the last four years and competing at various levels has been picked by the Jaipur Pink Panthers in the PKL auction.

He said that while Jammu and Kashmir have indoor stadiums, Cricket’s dominance in the region often overshadows other sports like kabaddi, which does not receive the same level of attention and importance.
“There is immense talent in J&K, youth in athletics who could excel in kabaddi, if given the right support and opportunities,” he added
Aamir’s father, Abdul Hamid Wani, highlights the crucial role of support from mentor. Faisal, the Physical Education Teacher, not only recognized Aamir’s passion for kabaddi but also actively facilitated his development by arranging training in Srinagar. This early encouragement and guidance was pivotal in shaping Aamir’s journey in Kabaddi. After a year, Aamir headed towards Mumbai to follow his dream, knowing well about various challenges, including financial ones. To support himself, my son sold dry fruits while training at his academy in Mumbai,” he said
“I urge the government, to develop better sports infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir, so as to lap the untapped potential of talented youth in the region who could represent the country at various levels.
Aamir’s experience in the Yuva Kabaddi Series held in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, in 2021 was key valuable in showcasing his skills and gaining prominence. His representation of J&K highlighted his talent, Thus making him a strong candidate for the Pro Kabaddi League, which is renowned for its high level of competition and large viewership. The PKL’s prominence, as the second most-watched sports league in India after the IPL, offers a significant platform for players like Aamir to advance their careers.
