
Sabkat Malik, a 20-year-old girl hailing fro m Vijjhara area of Kashmir’s Bandipora district won sliver medal in Youth Asian Ju-Jitsu Championship (YAJJC)-2024 at Abu Dhabi, UAE and brought laurels to J&K after carving her way to YAJJC.
Recent success of Sabkat at Senior Ju-Jitsu National Championship in Dehradun, Uttarakhand where she clinched another Gold in fighting system category shows her commitment towards the sport.
Watching Jiu-Jitsu competitions on TV in the sixth grade, Sabqat Malik decided that she would try her hand at martial arts. She since then participated in national competitions and even started winning gold medals at district, state, national and international levels.
Though support from school administration was not there, rather certain restriction were levied on girls for participating in sports activities, Sabkat still managed to practice and participate in the event due to her determination and dedication. She made her international debut at Abu Dhabi and made her parents and country proud. It was a dream come true for her to play at international event.
The young champion was felicitated by the Indian Army, 26 Assam Raffles and District Administration of Bandipora. Sabkat has meticulously trained to achieve her goal. Sabkat’s trainer, Muzaffar Ahmad Kawa, is full of praise for her dedication and consistency. “She is an inspiration to others,” he says. “We are confident that she will continue to achieve many more laurels for herself and country in future.”
Her talent, determination and achievements has Inspired future generations of female athletes in her area. She emerges as a role model for young girls in her community, Hero of Kashmir and a beacon of hope proving that with hard work, dedication and determination anything is possible.
