In a stunning display of dedication and talent, Kaifa Shah clinched a gold medal in Wushu at the 68th National School Games (SGFI) held in New Delhi from 9 to13 Dec 2024. Kaifa, a well-known athlete from Jammu & Kashmir and a student at Presentation Convention HR Secondary School, has not only excelled in Wushu but also maintained a remarkable academic record, balancing both sports and studies with exceptional skill.
Despite demanding training schedules and competitive nature of Wushu, Kaifa consistently prioritizes her education also. She attributes her success to effective time management and the unwavering support of her family, school, and coaches. In an interview, Kaifa shared, “It’s all about setting goals and staying focused. I believe both sports and studies are important for my future.”
Kaifa’s journey in Wushu began twelve years ago when she was just five years old, driven by her passion for martial arts and the desire to compete at a national level. With the support of her family and coaches, she honed her skills, participated in various zonal, district and state competitions, eventually securing a place on the national stage in 2015. Since then, she has continued to excel, winning a silver medal at last year’s Wushu Stars International Championship in Moscow, and increasing her medal tally to 48, including one international, eight nationals and several state, provincial and district medals.
In this 68th U/19 Championship, Kaifa defeated outstanding Wushu players from across the country, with her Wushu techniques praised by all. Her journey is nothing short of inspiring, having overcome challenges such as fitness issues, injuries and the difficulty of balancing academics with sports, while staying focused on her goals. She proved that success comes to those who are relentless in their pursuit.
Kaifa thanked the Secretary of the J&K Sports Council for providing facilities on par with international standards and expressed her gratitude to the Department of Youth Services and Sports for their excellent arrangements. She also acknowledged the immense support and encouragement she received from Mr. Kuldeep Handoo (Dronacharya awardee).
