
Kashmir’s record-breaking cyclist Adil Teli has secured a place in the prestigious 2025 UCI Gran Fondo World Series set to take place in Victoria, Australia from October 16 to 19. The 26-year-old from Budgam earned his qualification after an impressive performance at the Spinneys Dubai Cycling Challenge. He competed against over 400 top international cyclists and finished in the top 25 of his age category.
Teli first gained national recognition in 2021 when he set the record for the fastest bicycle journey from Kanyakumari to Kashmir covering a staggering 3,600 kilometers in just eight days, one hour and 39 minutes. This feat showcased his remarkable endurance, determination and mental resilience.
In September 2022, he cemented his reputation as a long-distance cycling phenomenon by breaking another Guinness World Record. He completed the grueling 475-kilometer Manali-Leh route featuring five high-altitude Himalayan passes in 29 hours 18 minutes and 21 seconds, six hours faster than the previous record.
At the Spinneys Dubai Cycling Challenge, Teli demonstrated exceptional tactical skills and the ability to sustain high speeds over long distances. The race known for its flat but fast course tested cyclists on aerodynamics, power and strategy. His strong performance not only secured his qualification for the UCI Gran Fondo World Series but also underscored his rising stature on the international cycling stage.
The UCI Gran Fondo World Series is one of the most prestigious amateur cycling competitions featuring top cyclists worldwide. To qualify, riders must finish among the top 25 in their respective age categories at official c events. Teli’s qualification marks a significant milestone placing him among the world’s best amateur cyclists.
Expressing his excitement, Teli said, “This is a dream come true. Representing India at the world level is an honor and I am determined to give my best at the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships.”
He further added, “The journey so far has not been easy but it has been incredibly rewarding. My priority now is to work hard and refine my approach to compete against some of the best riders in the world.”
Teli will compete on a challenging circuit along Australia’s iconic Great Ocean Road known for its demanding terrain and scenic landscapes. As he gears up for the competition, the cycling community and his supporters eagerly await his performance on the global stage.
