“I was thrilled when I saw my name in the India ‘A’ Team,” Rubia shared. “The news came while I was returning from a training camp with the Mumbai Indians. I immediately informed my association, and the outpouring of support and heartfelt congratulations from everyone made the moment all the more memorable.”
Her family’s elation has strengthened her resolve to make the most of this chance. Reflecting on her journey, Rubia acknowledged the challenges of pursuing cricket as a woman from a rural background. “It takes immense effort, especially coming from a place like Anantnag, but hard work and resilience are key. You have to stay hopeful and keep moving forward despite the obstacles,” she said.
Rubia credits her training stint with the Mumbai Indians for boosting her confidence. Practicing alongside star players like Shafali Verma and Devika Vaidya provided invaluable experience and feedback that she hopes to carry into the tournament.
A fan of MS Dhoni’s composure under pressure, Rubia also emphasized the role of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association in her success. “Their guidance and encouragement have been pivotal in my journey,” she noted.
As a role model for aspiring players in the region, Rubia stressed the importance of staying grounded. “I don’t aspire to be a celebrity; I want to be a player who inspires others. If my story motivates young cricketers, that’s an honor for me,” she said.
With the Women’s T20 Challengers Trophy ahead, Rubia aims to deliver exceptional performances that could pave the way for an international debut. “This is just the beginning. I hope to make my mark and earn a place in the national team,” she concluded.
